The Harrisonburg Downtown Technology Zone (HDTZ) provides incentives and support to attract technology based firms to the city. Located in the center of the downtown business district, the HDTZ is Virginia’s first neighborhood technology zone specializing in the growth of information technology firms to develop health and security solutions. HDTZ Incentives
- Three-year business, professional, and occupational license tax/fee exemption.
- Water and sewer connection fee exemption. Partial exemption for certain rehabilitations, renovations, or replacements of structures no less than twenty-five (25) years of age.
- Assistance in securing tax credits through federal and state assistance programs.

Harrisonburg Technology Park

Additionally, the Harrisonburg Technology Park provides a community for established businesses and technology firms to network, collaborate, and connect in a 24/7/365 neighborhood environment. In cooperation with James Madison University, the Technology Park offers opportunities for joint university/corporate research, such as Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR). The Technology Park is located at 1400 Technology Drive in the northern section of the city.
